Nativity School Outreach

For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26-28

Nativity Catholic School builds faith community through its commitment to the Gospel of Jesus. As a faith community all members share in the same mission to proclaim the Word of God and to help advance the values of the Gospel so that all will enjoy a full share in the kingdom of God. As baptized members of the Body of Christ, the school heeds Christ’s call to go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20. The challenge of faith is to teach by words and to witness by actions that God is present in our lives today. Nativity accepts the invitation to “open the doors to Christ” by welcoming students, parents, teachers, administrators, parish ministers and everyone in the parish community to share in the faith journey.

The efforts of all members of the community to live and proclaim the Gospel message are encouraged and supported. Nativity Catholic School builds a vital community of faith by recognizing that its ministry incorporates a three-fold dimension: God’s message, Christian fellowship, and service to the community. The school strives to accomplish this through the celebration of liturgy and shared prayer, sacramental preparation, religious instruction, school/parish fellowship opportunities and the incorporation of Christian virtues into all areas of the curriculum and school life.

Virtue of the Month

If I, therefore, the Master and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do. John 13:14-15

The Nativity Catholic School faculty has created and implemented a Virtues Program incorporating many subjects across the curriculum. The faculty encourages students to apply the virtues in their daily lives, including bearing witness to their religious faith, acknowledging their own self-worth, respecting others, appreciating God’s world and all the property therein, accepting responsibility for their own actions and words, and applying values to decision-making and problem-solving.

At the core of our Virtues Program is our Christian Outreach Program. Nativity Catholic School is involved in school-wide community services and charity. For example, the school collects canned goods, money, clothing, and books, that have been donated. The faculty believes that “Surround Sound” is the most effective way to teach virtues because repetition and modeling enhances learning. Parents read about the Virtues every month in the school newsletter. The parish priests include these same key words in their school Masses so that the children hear the same message from many in their lives.

Virtues Program/Outreach Project

  • This year the Diocesan theme for Catholic Schools is “Care of God’s Creation”
  • In accordance with that, our school theme is “We are Called”
  • Each virtue ties in with these themes.
  • The class leading the monthly virtue should plan Fellowship, the bulletin board and the outreach around the virtue.
