Church of the Nativity Adult Service, Support and Fellowship

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other to solve their common problems and to help each other recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, political group, or organization. The "Easy Does It" group of AA meets every Monday night at 8 p.m. in the All Purpose Room. Contact 703-281-7501.

Bulletin “Stuffers”

These volunteers meet Saturday mornings in the church office workroom immediately following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Over coffee and doughnuts, with a good measure of camaraderie, they "stuff" weekly inserts into the bulletins. All are welcome to participate. Contact Carol Mack or 703-455-2400 X117.

Family Fellowship Group

The Family Fellowship Group invites all Nativity families to come together in fellowship, share our faith, and provide service to our community. If you are searching for a deeper connection to families and your faith, this group strives to provide that
supportive environment. Our service project is the Ronald McDonald House in Falls Church, VA. The RMH provides a home away from home for seriously ill children receiving treatments
at nearby hospitals. The Family Fellowship Group will provide and serve meals to the families at the house and help with some of the grounds work. We invite families to join us in fellowship the fourth Friday of every month.  Please contact Courtney and

Grief Support

This group offers support to all who have suffered the death of a loved one and are in need of the comfort that sharing can bring. Led by trained facilitators, the meetings are open to all adults at no charge. Meetings take place in Nativity School on the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Contact Mary Jo Ostrowski, 703-323-6954.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men’s family, fraternal, and service organization, founded to help members remain steadfast in their faith, to promote closer ties of fraternity among members, and to provide for the widows and children of deceased members. Over the last century it has become an organization of over 1.6 million members in the United States and several other countries. Nativity Knights belong to the Father Vincent Sikora Council, No. 7992, established in 1982. The Council’s 300 members sponsor activities for the church (March for Life, ushers, tion grants) ; community (Special Olympics, KOVAR, Food for Others, Red Cross Blood Drives, assistance to Heatherwood and Burke Lake Gardens); youth (Boy Scouts, CYO Work Camp, Altar Server appreciation), and numerous parish support activities. Little Angel Gift Shop

The Little Angel Gift Shop sells a variety of religious articles and books and is open daily after all Masses. The gift shop is always in need of volunteers to work after any of the Masses. Contact Mickey Bueno 703-455-2400 X137.

Ministry for the Newly Married

Ministry for the Newly Married is an outgrowth of Catholic Engaged Encounter and has the goal of reaching out to couples in the early years of their marriages, welcoming them to the parish, and supporting them in living the Sacrament of Matrimony. A core group meets quarterly to plan social and spiritual activities. A guest speaker program covers topics such as "Spirituality in Marriage," "Romance," "Disillusionment and Joy," and "Financial Issues." Contact Tom and Dianne Fields 703-569-4631.

Mom & Me

Mom & Me is a cooperative organization of women in the parish who have infants and/or preschoolers at home. It is designed to address the needs of mothers and their children through group play, social interaction, and community service in a Catholic environment. Meetings are held on Wednesday mornings in the All Purpose Room or at a selected site on a monthly Kidventure Day. Service projects include assistance to Jeremiah House, Echo, and Burke Lake Gardens. Nativity Crafters

The Crafts Group meets in the All Purpose Room Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. to create unique crafts and knitted and crocheted items to donate to local charities. The group also sponsors a yearly bazaar. All are welcome. Contact Renate Troy 703-250-8769.

Nativity Just Faith Community

JustFaith is a national program that provides “opportunities for individuals to study and be formed by the justice tradition articulated by the Scriptures, the Church's historical witness, and Catholic social teaching.”   It involves thirty weekly meetings and readings along with six weekend activities from September to May.  Participants from past Nativity groups have been enthusiastic about their experience and continue to meet monthly for faith-sharing and community-building.  For further information go to the following website: http://www.justfaith.org/ or call Nativity parishioners: Joan Mahal 703-569-1746 or Jeanie Wood 703-569-6676.

Our Lady of Knock Society

Our Lady of Knock Society is an international organization founded in Burke, Virginia, in January 1996 to promote social, ethnic, cultural, and spiritual awareness of the Irish Catholic heritage with specific devotion to Our Lady of Knock. The Society welcomes members who are of Irish Catholic heritage. Monthly meetings are held September through June in the All Purpose Room. The group hosts or participates in parish-wide events, including an annual card party in November and the Knights of Columbus St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance in March. Funds collected by the group are donated to assist children in Catholic schools in the parish and in Ireland. Contact Kathy Davis 703-644-5467.

Pro-Life Committee

The Pro-Life Committee supports all moral and legal activity that will change the minds and hearts of those engaged in anti-life activity. Direct support is given to the annual March for Life (January), the annual Life Chain (October), prayerful protest at abortion sites, and support of organizations such as Jeremiah House that offer support for women undergoing crisis pregnancies. Retrouvaille

Retrouvaille is a weekend retreat for couples who are separated or considering separation. Contact Eric and Debra West 703-683-4685.

Social Justice Network

The Network facilitates the exchange of information among all Nativity parishioners and parish organizations concerning their community service and social justice activities, assists in the recruitment of volunteers, and provides opportunities for reflection and community building.  The Network meets monthly, maintains a Parish Social Justice Directory, and conducts other activities to encourage and sustain parishioners seeking to follow Catholic social teaching. Worldwide Marriage Encounter

WWME is one of the most successful and dynamic marriage enrichment experiences in the world today. Over 4 million couples in over 90 countries have experienced a Marriage Encounter (ME) weekend. The ME weekend is a series of presentations given by a team of three couples and a priest, which allows couples the rare opportunity to look at themselves as individuals, their marriage, and their relationship with God, the church, and the world. The focus of ME is on communication between husband and wife, as they spend a weekend together away from the distractions and the tensions of everyday life, to concentrate solely on each other. Throughout the year, ME couples come together once a month to reinforce their newly acquired communication techniques begun on the weekend.

Women of Nativity

Women of Nativity promotes the work of the parish by helping to attain its goals and mission, including promoting a sense of belonging to the Christian Community and offering opportunities for evangelization, spiritual growth, and service within the church and the surrounding communities. Women of Nativity meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the All Purpose Room. The group sponsors community activities that include “Christmas in August” to distribute school supplies to underprivileged children and the “Advent Giving Tree” that grants holiday wishes to needy parish families and outlying community groups. There are spiritual retreats, teas, potluck suppers and other social events held throughout the year. Membership is open to all women of the parish. Contact Kelly Laychak 703-440-9215.

Operation Starfish ®

Operation Starfish® is a ministry to the poor of Haiti, begun at Nativity Church in 1998. Its focus is awareness of the poor and action on their plight.
