About the Show:

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (WickedPippinChildren of Eden), and it took the world by storm. Led by the international hit, “Day by Day,” Godspell features a parade of beloved songs, including “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “All for the Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side.”

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

From the Director:

Those unfamiliar with Godspell might think it is Broadway’s watered-down attempt to explain the Gospel of Matthew.  But those who know Godspell understand that through the silly games & stories depicting the parables and lessons Jesus taught, Jesus is bringing together a group of very different people and making them into a community.  Themes of kindness, tolerance, love, hope, growth & family abound – themes that are very important, even 2000 years after Jesus walked the Earth.  However, instead of a classroom lesson, these themes are presented through story and song in a fun and accessible manner.  We hope our production inspires a new group of Godspell enthusiasts and brings joy to those who have loved the show since its 1970’s Off-Broadway days.
– Director, Kimberly Siepmann

Ms. Kimberly fell in love with theater in the 5th grade when she was cast as Tweedle-Dee in The Trial of Alice in Wonderland.  As a teenager she had the opportunity to perform in dozens of musicals in a community theater, inspiring her to a dream of one day owning her own community theater.  Nativity may not have the grand staircase she imagined, but being called to share her passions for theater and ministry with her parish family and the local community is a dream come true.  Ms. Kimberly and the rest of the Company thank you for supporting the debut of the Nativity Players Theater Ministry and they look forward to seeing you soon at Godspell!
